What we put into our body is so important, not only for becoming stronger and being more lean, but for proper brain function. Without the proper nutrients our brain can’t function at its best. Here are 5 foods that are good for the brain.
1. Oily Fish- Oily fish have high amounts of Omega 3 fatty acids, specifically DHA which is a fatty acid that is crucial to the health of our nervous system. It has been found that low levels of DHA have been linked to higher levels of Alzheimer’s disease. Fish also contain iodine, which improves mental clarity. Some examples of oily fish are: salmon, trout, herring, sardines, and fresh tuna.

2. Acai and Blueberries- These both have high levels of antioxidants, which are great because they can cancel out the cell-damaging effects of free radicals. Also, antioxidants are commonly used as medications to treat various forms of brain injury and they are even being investigated as possible treatments for Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease. Acai berries are really special because on top of having high levels of antioxidants they also have the omega 3 fatty acids that oily fish do.

3. Tomatoes- Tomatoes contain Lycopene, which is a powerful antioxidant that can help in the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease, not to mention they are also great for helping to prevent some types of cancer.

4. Nuts- Nuts have high levels of vitamin E and there have been some studies stating that high levels of vitamin E can help to prevent poor memory.

5. Broccoli- Broccoli is an excellent source of vitamin K, which enhances cognitive function and improves brainpower.

Try incorporating these 5 foods into your diet more often and help your brain be as healthy as it can be!
