Looking for the perfect breakfast? Well you should consider a health smoothie to start your day, one that contains fruit, fat free yogurt, milk(soy, or skim) and protein. It is a great way to feed your body what it needs after a long nights rest and get you going for the day. I decided I would share my recipe of what exactly goes into my smoothies, so lets get started!
First, I throw some blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries in a blender, about a half cup of fruit total. Blueberries are among the fruits with the highest antioxidant activity. Which help protect the body against the damaging effects of free radicals and the chronic diseases associated with the aging process. Raspberries and blackberries also provide the same health benefits as blueberries do, but not to the same effect, I like to add them though to give it more flavor. One other thing, adding fruit will get your blood sugar levels up after a long nights rest which is also a good to start your day or before a workout.
Second, I add some fat free yogurt. Yogurt is a very good source of calcium, phosphorus, riboflavin-vitamin B2, iodine, vitamin B12, pantothenic acid-vitamin B5, zinc, potassium, protein and molybdenum. Also, yogurt that contains live and active cultures may help you to live longer, and may fortify your immune system.
Third, I add some soy milk(you can go with skim if you prefer). This will help it liquefy and not be too thick. Whether you are going with soy or skim milk, you will be getting some good proteins, calcium, and more healthy fat free calories that your body needs after sleeping all night.
Lastly, I add a couple scoops of my favorite protein powder. This gives me the protein my body needs before a hard workout, also it gives me more healthy calories for energy to start my day.
Try this quick and easy recipe and see you feel, you should feel more energetic and ready to take on the day.
