I decided to wear my heart rate monitor and calorie counter today when I did the Yoga X routine in the P90X program. I had never wore the monitor before when I did this routine so I was interested to see how many calories I would burn and what my heart rate would peak at. I noticed I can work up a pretty good sweat and some of the poses and stretches are really difficult and make my whole body shake, so needless to say I really had no idea how many calories I was burning and what my heart rate topped out at.
My numbers from the Yoga X routine were 489 calories burned, more then I expected, and my heart rate topped out at 139 BPM, which is close to what I expected but a little higher. I thought this information was pretty interesting, I mean the Yoga X routine is long but I certainly didn’t think I burned almost 500 calories doing it, that is significant in my mind. I viewed this routine as one of the more laid back ones in the P90X program and it is, but it shows you the intensity of these workouts. Even on days when I think I am taking it easy I am still burning a significant amount of calories.
The P90X is a great workout program and Yoga X is a great routine that they mixed in. I never would have thought that Yoga would burn that many calories but they really knew what they were doing when they put this whole thing together.
I still haven’t wore the heart rate monitor and calorie counter for every workout, it was broke and I just got a new one, so I am interested to see how many calories other routines burn, such as the plyometrics routine. If Yoga X burned almost 500 then the others must burn a lot more, I am looking forward to sharing my results!
