Week 3 Chest and Back

Posted on 14 September 2009 by AceP90X

I am in the beginning of the third week of the P90X. I have gotten leaner and my abs are showing a little bit more which I am pleased with. My muscles have been sore after all of the strength training exercises but not too sore, usually only a little bit the next day. I am thinking of upping my weight when I use dumbbells next time around with each routine that requires weights.

I had my chest and back today and it was still difficult for me to complete. I am able to do the exercises just fine, but I really wanted to bring it this week as Tony Horton would say. So that meant I was really pushing myself on every pull up and push up exercise that they had. I did more pull ups and push ups then I did last week, but I paid for it. I was feeling very lightheaded and sick to my stomach towards the end of this workout and I still had to do the Ab Ripper X. Just in case you are curious what exactly I am doing for my chest, you do many different variations of push ups. You do close hand, military, standard, decline, wide grip, diamond and one other variation where you dip your head forward and then bring it up and back down. It might not sound like much but you are doing numerous sets of these and you are moving pretty fast. I had a very big and strong chest before I did this routine. I weight 177 pounds and can bench 225 about 20 times and max out over 300 so my chest isn’t weak. But the first two times I did this routine my chest was feeling it the next day. Even though the push ups are hard I don’t feel like they are what is killing me during this routine, I think it is the numerous and many different variations of pull ups.

You do close grip overhand and underhand, you do wide grip and standard on top of doing a few different exercises with weights. When I get down from that pull up bar I am exhausted. I am hoping over time I will be able to handle this routine a little better so I can bring it but not feel sick at the end.

The Ab Ripper X is the last thing I did today and I really like this routine, usually by the time I get to the scissor kicks my abs are screaming and I am not even half way done at that point. I am not as sore as I was after doing this routine the first time but I also didn’t stretch the first time, now I do and it really helps me. Plyometrics tomorrow.
